What is radon? Radon is an odorless and colorless gas that rises up from the ground. It’s present in most soils and we breathe in trace amounts every day. It is a radioactive gas produced from decaying uranium. So when it collects and pools inside your home with nowhere to go, it can have some serious adverse health effects. Excessive radon exposure can cause lung cancer and is responsible for over 20,000 deaths per year according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
There are also ways to protect your home from the radioactive gas from leaking in:
- Use polyurethane caulk to seal cracks in the foundation and other openings around doors and windows
- Install an airtight cover on your sump pump
- Use thick polyurethane plastic sheeting to cover soil in crawl spaces and make sure it is tightly secured to the walls
Please ensure that your home is safe for you and your family.
